The auxilliary heater on my 1.9tdi has started gushing smoke from burning unburned fuel whenever I stop. I guess the igniter / burner or something is blocked or not burning cleanly? and fuel builds up? Anyway, given the age of the vehicle (117k miles) I'm not sure the repair is economic? Does anyone know if I simply disconnect the electrical connection would the unit just stop/shut down, - with no further supply of diesel to the burner? Or would this cause even more problems? Any guesses on this specific, or a more general solution, appreciated.

Unplugging in situ is not easy, much easier to remove fuse number 12 it will not affect anything else.

Don't put your winter coats away yet you will need something warm on in the car :)

Thanks to you all... I'll look at replacing the glowplug, but after reading Ford's TIS documents it doesn't look as quick or easy as you imply?

Then I guess I just remove the fuse... I'll let you know.

The auxilliary heater on my 1.9tdi ....

Oops have I screwed up too - after looking around the forum I see that I mean the Booster Heater, not the auxiliary.

It's the one that keeps running with a wheezing noise for about 15 seconds after we switch off. Except that ours now does it accompanied by seriously heavy dense smoke and a pongy pong.

That's the one that doesn't loook too easy to replace the glow plug, .. unless you can point me in the right direction?

Hi

Fitted the new glow plug on my Gal 130TDI yesterday.

Just over 2 hrs to fit and seems to cure the smoking problem like yours.

Without the thread in F.A.Q I would'nt have tackled this.

Cheers Phil
